Blyth - Wonky Frog Studio

Nestled on the edge of the downtown core of Blyth, Wonky Frog Studio stands as a testament to the transformative power of the "artist life". For visitors searching for something slightly more esoteric, this boutique and studio space offers far more than traditional retail; it provides a sensory journey into the creative hearts of its owners, Cat O’Donnell and Scott Ramsay.

The couple, both professional artists with over 20 years of experience, fell in love with Huron County while vacationing in the area. Just over 12 years ago, the couple was looking to relocate; they were looking specifically for a place with dual studios so that they could each have their own creative space. When a small property featuring two studios and a retail space became available, they "leapt" at the opportunity to establish their permanent creative roots. Today, Wonky Frog Studio is located at the corner of Westmoreland and Queen Street, a site that historically served the community as "The Pottery" as four different potters have now owned the property. Cat wasn’t a potter when she bought the building, but with her experience as a multi-media artist, she discovered that she was a natural at it.

While the retail shop measures a modest 14’ x 12’, it is meticulously curated to showcase a wealth of talent, with dedicated shelf space to numerous local makers and artisans, including  locally-blended teas, jewelry, and local apothecary products that include smudge and spell jars. Every item in the boutique is selected or created with deep intention and positive energy, giving it its tag line “little shop with a lot”.

Cat O’Donnell anchors the pottery studio, where she not only creates functional art like her very cool pottery mugs and cauldron cups, but also shares her passion through classes and workshops. Beyond the pottery wheel, Cat is a Sound Reiki® practitioner and intuitive guide. Her practice of this healing modality, which she learned from childhood friend Heather Hannan, infuses the entire studio with a sense of calm and purpose. In fact, Cat’s journey as a lightworker, medium and psychic empath is evolving the studio into a complete energy and wellness centre. Tuesdays are a special time at Wonky Frog, as Cat invites you to join her for intuitive card readings on Tarot and Tea Tuesdays.

The studio's mainstay remains the original creative output of its founders. Scott Ramsay is a celebrated painter whose work often captures the iconic spirit of the region. His realistic renderings of Blyth landmarks, such as the local water tower and the vintage Farmall tractor, have garnered significant acclaim and made his commissions in high demand. His work has been featured in print in Acrylic Works, and he offers both original pieces and imprinted merchandise through the store and online through Fine Art America.

Whether you are looking for a unique gift, a piece of local history captured in a painting, or a therapeutic workshop or just need a place to go to feel centered and experience a connection with the universe, Wonky Frog Studio is an incomparable experience.

Wonky Frog Studio is not just a shop; it is a reflection of the vibrant, artistic spirit that is its owners. It is a place where every visitor is greeted with the same positive energy that inspired Cat and Scott to make this village their home.
