Seaforth - Valletta Maltese Bakery

The Valletta Maltese Bakery opened its doors in mid-July, after an extensive renovation to the storefront in the heart of Seaforth. Owner Simon Delicata teased the public with updates on the new decor and equipment as he worked.

 

At the heart of the bakery’s offerings is the legendary Maltese Pastizzi, a heavenly, golden-baked pastry crafted with crisp, flaky layers. Owner Simon Delicata prepares these savory handheld delights with two traditional fillings: rich ricotta cheese, and a comforting mix of corned beef, sweet peas, onions, and a gentle whisper of curry. Generously sized and perfectly baked, they’re great for breakfast, lunch, or a cozy dinner. Visitors can grab them hot from the oven or pick up a frozen dozen to bake home.

 

Beyond the savory, the pastry display tempts visitors with sweet treats like Diamond Dates, a delicate pastry stuffed with a spiced date filling that vanishes almost as quickly as Simon can bake them.

 

Simon was pleasantly surprised by the local enthusiasm for Middle Eastern shawarma, as well as the vibrant vegetarian community in Huron County. Always ready with a smile, he ensures his menu offers something flavorful and satisfying for every palate that walks through the door.

The path to opening Valletta Maltese Bakery is a story of resilience and small-town warmth. Over two decades ago, Simon and his family traded the fast pace of Toronto for the rolling landscapes of Huron East. When an unexpected layoff hit just five months after the move, The family had no desire to go back to the big city and chose to plant roots rather than head back to the big city. With guidance from the local Huron Employment Resource Centre, he earned his commercial license and spent twenty years driving trucks, all while holding onto a dream of one day opening his own eatery.

 

That dream finally began taking shape a decade ago. Partnering with Huron Community Futures, Simon was guided step-by-step through business planning, while Huron East Economic Development Officer Taralyn Cronin helped him discover the ideal storefront on Seaforth’s main street.
