Goderich - Bee’s Knees Books & Emporium

The new owners of Bee’s Knees Books & Emporium on the Square in Goderich are getting ready for their first summer.

The store was previously the home of Finchers and was sold to the new owners of Bees Knees Books & Emporium, Heather Blackman and her partner, Holly Clune, in January. Heather says they had lived in Edmonton for 10 years and moved to Goderich after that because they wanted a change. Heather had previously been an operating room nurse and Holly was a yoga instructor and they have found the change they were looking for in their new store that is very much in keeping with what Finchers was. They sell books, magazines, toys and puzzles. One thing they're hoping to do is expand their book selection. They currently have books for all ages from baby board books right up through toddlers to young readers and adult fiction. They're hoping to expand to have all genres available to Goderich readers from romance to mystery, more literature, classics, non-fiction, sci-fi and biographies.

Heather says they also have a section for local authors, including historian David Yates who has just released a new book this month and she says they'll be having a book signing event for that and they are interested in hosting more book signing events and book club meetings. She says in addition to books, they have magazines and newspapers which she says are very popular with the locals, as well as a lot of the tourists in the summer. They also have the same selection of Lego and toys and puzzles and crafts that have been there in the past.

Heather says they're hoping to connect a little more with the Goderich reading community a bit more and to do that they have some bookish merchandise like book-themed socks, puzzles and tee-shirts and they're starting to get a good following on social media with reading clubs and things like that. She adds, one of the reasons for buying that store was they didn't want to live in a town that didn't have a book store.
