Seaforth - The Great Pumpkin Trail

The Seaforth Agricultural Society is busy prepping for one of the region’s most enchanting autumn traditions: The Great Pumpkin Trail. What began as a modest community idea four years ago has blossomed into a must-see local attraction that captures the whimsical spirit of Halloween. As volunteer Kendra Jewitt explains, the magic lies in its simplicity, it is a community-focused celebration of creativity and neighbourly fun.

 

For those with an "insider" tip on the perfect carve, visitors and locals alike are invited to bring their decorated masterpieces to the local race track. The event features distinct categories for adults and children, ensuring that everyone has a fair shot at the bragging rights. To keep the focus on pure artistry, a clever numbering system ensures that voting is entirely anonymous, meaning you’re simply voting for the glow that captures your heart the most.

 

From 4 pm to 5:15 pm, pumpkin artists are invited to drop off their creations and then come back to see the trail come to light. The true transformation happens at twilight. From dusk until dark (roughly 6 pm to 8 pm), the race track becomes a glowing corridor of light as families wander the trail to cast their votes. With three prizes up for grabs in each category, the competition is friendly but spirited. The categories are divided into adult and children, so that the kids don’t get all the prizes. While entering your pumpkin is free of charge, a small admission fee for spectators helps support this growing local favorite, which has seen participation surge to over one hundred pumpkins in recent years.

 

In a wonderful community twist, participants retrieve their pumpkins at the end of the evening to light up their own porches for Halloween night.
