Blyth Rutabaga Festival and Homecoming

The recently revived Rutabaga Festival is now running every five years in conjunction with the village’s homecoming celebrations. This year’s Rutabaga Festival and Homecoming are scheduled to happen on June 18, with a kick-off concert the evening before.

The last Rutabaga Festival concert in 2019 had local musician Adam Cousins as the headliner. The singer was so popular that the Blyth Community Betterment Group is bringing him back this year as the headliner at the kickoff, being held at the Blyth and District Community Centre on June 17.

On Saturday, things really heat up with both co-ed ball and ping-pong tournaments, bed races, vendors and food trucks. For the kids, there will be a “Kidzone” with lots of activities and, on the community stage, there will be three performances of Orbax and Pepper Do Science, as well as local talent performing.

The cooking contest really celebrates the beloved rutabaga and shows the versatility of this humble root vegetable.

Pineridge BBQ is catering a take-out chicken dinner, but tickets are only available in advance and must be purchased before June 1.

Camping is available all weekend at the Blyth Campground, located right at the Community Centre.

Details can be found by following Rutabaga Fest on Facebook.
