Hensall hosts outdoor antique show, June 16
This year, Janis and Peter Bisback will host an outdoor antique show in Hensall for the sixth year at their home at 72040 London Road, RR1, Hensall.
The Bisbacks have been collecting antiques such as painted furniture, folk art and decorating items for nearly 50 years and in 2014 they created the Ontario’s West Coast Antique Show. This year’s sale is set for Sunday, June 16.
Back in 2014, Peter Bisback, an antique collector for over 45 years, decided that it was time for a small, manageable outdoor antique show right here in Huron County and began over the winter courting dealers who have offered Canadian antiques at prestigious shows throughout the province and even in the United States. Everyone who was invited accepted readily and said that the West Coast of Ontario was a destination many of the dealers had not experienced. The name of the show is called the Ontario's West Coast Antique Show to lessen any confusion about some other province near an ocean.
Now, in its sixth year, the show is held at the Bisbacks’ home on Highway 4 south of Hensall. More than 20 dealers, pickers and collectors are invited every year. It’s a one-day, outdoor show and sale beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. to allow the dealers time to pack up and be home before the sun sets.
Over the years, the event has included a barbecue carried out by the Hensall Horticultural Society and local musicians performing through-out the day. The show also collects donations for the Exeter Scouts in lieu of an admission fee. Over the years, over $5,000 has been raised for the organization through the sale.
