Maple & Moose
Downtown Blyth is renowned for its creative alley of shops, restaurants and services, and Maple and Moose has been an anchor for 15 years.
The store, which will celebrate its crystal anniversary this summer, was born of a conversation at a meeting of the Blyth Idea Group, a committee of Blyth business owners and residents whose goal was to improve the village. A local family had purchased and restored the Pretoria Block on the main street resulting in three beautiful storefronts. When discussing what types of businesses might be best suited for the block, Bev Elliott suggested that a store that sold only Canadian products would be a great tie-in to the Blyth Festival, famous for its Canadian playbill.
She suggested that a co-operative would be a unique alternative to compete with large stores in the bigger towns and cities. Before she knew it, she was leading the charge to create a board of directors to oversee the operation, recruit vendors and stock the store!
The store carries all things Canadian including jewellery, pottery, specialty gourmet foods, local books, unique art and so much more. All are displayed on antique tables, refinished buffets and vintage jewellery counters.
Maple and Moose will be celebrating their 15th anniversary all week beginning August 2 with in-store sales and draws and culminating with a party on Saturday August 6 that will feature food, activities for the kids and entertainment.
