Maitside Orchards

Jared and Monica Brouwer have been raising their growing family on the century-old Maitside Orchards on the outskirts of Brussels since 2016.

They grow more than 20 varieties of apples, peaches and pears, including some heirloom varieties. The on-site retail market carries their apples, and varieties grown in other midwestern Ontario orchards, along with a wide range of local and seasonal products including cider, potatoes, strawberries, vegetables, meats and preserves. Store hours for September to December are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Brouwers plan to continue their popular outdoor “Play and Learn Centre” on Saturday afternoons from 1 to 5 p.m. at the farm for the months of September and October. Activities include picking your own apples, hayrides, frisbee golf, a giant sandpile and a river look-out trail, all for $5 per person or $20 for the whole family (plus HST). As with most activities this year, it is best to call ahead and confirm. Located at 23 Orchard Lane, Brussels. 519-887-6883. www.maitsideorchards.ca
