Imposter Brewing Company

Every small town has its gathering places. The coffee shop where neighbours catch up, the arena where communities come together, the restaurant where celebrations unfold. In Exeter, a new destination brewery is quickly earning a place on that list.

The brewery's story began with owners Chris and Vicki Darbishire, whose appreciation for craft beer developed while living abroad and travelling. What started as a homebrewing hobby eventually grew into a business venture, culminating in the opening of a brewery that brings small-batch craft beer to South Huron. The name itself comes from the familiar feeling of "imposter syndrome”. We’ve all felt that nagging sense of wondering whether you belong. Rather than shy away from it, the owners embraced the idea and built a brand around it.

Inside the taproom, visitors will find a welcoming atmosphere designed to encourage people to linger. The brewery produces its beer on-site, focusing on carefully crafted recipes made with quality ingredients. Core offerings include beers such as Imposter Syndrome IPA and Imposter's Blonde, while seasonal and rotating brews give visitors reasons to return and discover something new. The bar also offers a couple of different coolers, in case anyone in your party isn’t a fan of beer.

There’s lots to see and do at Imposter. Aside from the traditional pool table, the geek in you will be excited by the Simpsons and Sopranos pinball machines. The wall of beer labels that have been lovingly collected and arranged is a showpiece in itself.

What sets the brewery apart, however, is its role as a community gathering space. Beyond serving locally crafted beer, the taproom hosts trivia nights, live entertainment and special events throughout the year.

The arrival of Imposter Brewing reflects a broader trend seen across rural Huron County, where locally owned breweries are becoming tourism destinations in their own right. Visitors are increasingly seeking authentic experiences, and breweries offer a unique opportunity to connect with a community through its people, stories and local flavours.

For travellers exploring Exeter and the surrounding region, Imposter Brewing Company offers another reason to stop, stay awhile and experience the town. Whether you're a dedicated craft beer fan or simply looking for a welcoming place to spend an afternoon, this new brewery is proving that sometimes the best discoveries are found where you least expect them.
