Lucknow - Bruce-Huron Produce Auction

 

Bruce-Huron Produce Auction is a live, public consignment auction of local fruit and produce. Lot sizes at the auction vary from a half bushel, full bushel, pallets and field bins or skids. Almost 95 per cent of the produce at the wholesale auction is grown within Huron-Kinloss Township.  A few items that are not as easily grown in the area, like peaches or cherries, are Ontario-grown but are sourced from a little further away.  

 

There’s a large variety of produce and more available to purchase by cash or approved cheque at the auction based on the season’s availability. September to October offers apples, squash, pumpkins, gourds, onions, potatoes, watermelon, tomatoes, peppers, sweet corn and mums. The winter season from November to April offers storage crops and winter grown greens including apples, beets, carrots, cabbage, leaf lettuce, spinach, kale, potatoes, onions, squash, brussel sprouts and radishes.  

 

Most buyers at the auction have roadside stands, or small independent stores. By buying at the auction they are getting fresh, quality products, and most of the produce is being picked the day of the auction. Buying at the auction is open to the public, with a 25 per cent buyers premium for home-use to be fair to the wholesale buyers. The auction times vary by season. The auction is run Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays at 3:00 pm from May until Thanksgiving. It’s only on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm from Thanksgiving to November 30th; and after November 30th until spring it is Tuesdays at 9:00 am.  At 733 Kairshea Ave., Holyrood (about 10 minutes drive north of Lucknow).
