The roots of this local landmark go deep, stretching back to 1949 when David Griffiths’ uncles, Lewis and William Blake, first planted apple trees on their farm. David, who took over in 1992, carries forward the legacy that has flourished for over seven decades.

 

Over the years, the orchard has undergone a beautiful transformation. What was once a sprawling 25-acre enterprise that sent delivery trucks loaded with fruit as far as Hanover, Port Elgin, Listowel, and Goderich, has evolved into something much more intimate. By downsizing to five carefully tended acres, David and his wife Karen have opted to downsize but still accommodate the demand for Blake’s apples through a farmgate model.

David and Karen work alongside a local part-time helper and a seasonal team of off-shore workers who ensure every apple is gathered before the autumn frost truly sets in. Griffiths says they'll have their highway signs up and be on social media, and look forward to seeing lots of their friends again this year.
