Bayfield Garden Club’s Annual Plant Sale
Spokesperson Nancy Kale says there are a couple of things that will make this year's Bayfield Garden Club's Annual Plant Sale on May 9 very special.
She says the Annual Plant Sale is always held on the Saturday of the Mother's Day weekend. For about 10 years the plant sale was held in Clan Gregor Square, which was a beautiful spot when the weather co-operated, but not so much when it was cold or raining. The Club joined forces with the Bayfield Agricultural Society and this will be the second year they'll be holding the Plant Sale in the display barn at the fairgrounds. Nancy says not only are they now protected from the weather, but they can set everything up the night before the sale and that makes everything much easier.
She says the big surprise this year is they're helping the village of Bayfield celebrate their 150th anniversary. Nancy says the colours to mark the anniversary are going to be sunset colours. There is a logo to mark the 150th anniversary and the colours have been chosen to complement the logo, so a lot of yellows, oranges and reds. They're planning to sell red impatiens plants at the sale that people will be able to plant in their gardens and she points out, as the name suggests, they're plants that thrive on sun shine so they don't have to be kept in the shade. Nancy says many of their members and other residents of the community donate a variety of plants that they've grown to be sold at the sale. There is also a gentleman who sometimes grows trees on his property and donates them to be sold for the garden club.
Nancy says something specifically designed for the 150th anniversary is the sale of gardening aprons that were made by volunteers and all of the money raised by the sale of the aprons will go to the Huron Hospice Bender House. She says they also sell memberships to the Bayfield Garden Club at the sale and she points out, the sale is the result of a lot of volunteers working very hard to contribute to make the sale the success that it is.
This year's sale will be held in the Bayfield Agricultural Society's display barn on the fairgrounds beside the arena on Saturday, May 9, but you’ll need to be an early bird. The sale starts at 9 am and runs just until 10:30 am, or until sold out!. You can find the Bayfield Garden Club on Facebook. 1 Fry St, Bayfield
